MIIM scanners work with the MIIM server application software and MIIM patch panels to co-ordinate work order management, provide LED patch guidance, and to sense and convey the status of connectivity at work area outlets to the MIIM server. Each 1U scanner can be connected to up to 48 patch panels providing monitoring of up to 576 separate physical channels in a single cross-connect zone or 1152 channels in an interconnect zone. An unlimited number of scanners can be administered by the MIIM server in a single site. Standard RJ45 patch cords are used as the communication bus connection between scanners and patch cords.
In the event that the MIIM application cannot communicate with a scanner, the scanner records transactions in a queue for later delivery to the MIIM software. Scanners recover from power outages without requiring reconfiguration. MIIM scanners consume little power, which can be critical in power-hungry environments such as Data Centers.

MIIM G3 Category 6 UTP Patch Panels are used within the MIIM G3 System. Each 1U 24 Port Patch Panel can connect to the MIIM scanner with one control unit data on the rear of the panel which provides the data bus connection. The data bus connection port connects the panel to the MIIM scanner via a standard RJ45 patch cord. The patch panel is used by the MIIM G3 system to track connectivity in the patch zone area. LED status indicators on the panel show status of connectivity between the panel and the scanner and also provide panel guidance for work orders. The MIIM G3 Patch Panels consist of 24 Keystone jacks which is Category 6 compliant and meets the relevant cabling standards for category 6 performance. The jack is engineered for use across a broad range of Molex products.

Port numbering is provided on the front and rear of the panel and individual ports may be colour coded using connector icon labels for site specific network administration. The PowerCat 6A Shielded Patch Panel features the unique DataGate™ Shielded connector. This shielded connector offers superior alien crosstalk suppression, excellent insertion loss, and provides enhanced electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection by utilising robust die-cast zinc alloy connector body housing. This shielded connector also features a unique spring loaded shutter that not only protects it from dust and contaminates, but the ingenious spring loaded design also ejects improperly seated patch cords. The shielded connector is dual colour coded for either 568A or 568B wiring schedules. The DataGate Power Cat 6A Shielded connector was specifically developed for high-speed data transmission; designed to exceed the highest electrical performance standards in the industry. The DataGate PowerCat 6A Shielded connector is also backwards compatible with Shielded C6 and C5e systems Molex recommends that the full range of PowerCat 6A Shielded products be used in a system to maximise cabling performance. The Shielded 1U 24 Port Unloaded Keystone Patch Panel is shipped unloaded and can be configured to provide the exact number of modular ports. The Patch Panel is made of steel sheet and can accept 24 shielded and unshielded Keystone modules. The Cable management bar is also made of steel and equipped with an earth screw. The front of the panel is equipped with a transparent holder for port labelling. Keystone jacks (sold separately) can be terminated to the cable and then snapped into the patch panel.

The MIIM Outlet Terminator is used at the work area outlet to allow the MIIM system to monitor the connection of the horizontal cable to the work area outlet. The MIIM Outlet Terminator is effectively a stuffer cap with in-built components that work exclusively in the Molex MIIM solution. It enables the MIIM system to determine circuit integrity to the work area outlet.
Communications between the MIIM Outlet Terminator and the MIIM Scanner are transparent to the data channel and operate outside the Ethernet bandwidth. The MIIM system can function independently of the MIIM outlet terminator. However, the terminator provides enhanced functionality in terms of monitoring spare or unused channels.
